My name is Angela Slagle, I have lived in East Tennessee for the past 2o years. In July of 2011 my father, Lenny, passed away suddenly. In an effort to create beauty and find peace from my fathers’s untimely death, I created pendants and such to share with my family.

Services are personal and professional. I fully understand and appreciate your emotional concerns regarding the proper care and handling of cremains. For further informations please contact me.

Been busy in the shop this week creating a few sketches and working on our church project. When a customer calls and wants a window I look at the space and we discuss ideas and then I draw a sketch. I only hand draw patterns, because I do not own a huge copier : } When cutting glass, I do not use a bandsaw or any kind of high tech gadgets to cut the glass or inside cuts. I am more of an old school glass chic. I only draw what I can cut. I appreciate glass for what it is and I do not like to try to make it act as if it were some other kind of material. The sketches I have created this week are for a new customer. She has two spaces to fill and suggested a couple of different ideas for the space. I took her information and these are the patterns I came up with. From here, I will send her the pictures and she can make suggestions or changes and we will go from there. I enjoy building windows like these.

roosterflowerdragonflies

The progress on our church window is going well. Have the cartoon for the top window complete…glass numbered. From here I will recut the broken or missing pieces and lay the window out to prepare to build.

Working on the second set of windows for Rutledge Presbyterian. Today I am cleaning each piece of glass that I saved when I tore the windows apart from the old lead. Doing this is pretty much just like it sounds….I cut away the old lead, which is fairly easy when restoring an old window, because over time lead oxidizes and breaks down and by the time I get my hands on it, it is plyable and pretty much falls apart. I use soapy water and soak the glass pieces, cleaning them one by one. This window had a lot of breakage. Once the glass pieces are cleaned I lay the crayon rubbing out and lay the pieces on top of it. This shows me what new pieces I will have to cut and gives me an idea of how “off” the rubbing may be. I had the broken glass matched, so I will be able to cut new glass that will look as close as possible to the original pieces.

My 2012 resolution is to attempt to keep up with this blog … now that my left brained daughter has taught me to do it. : }

2011 was a good year for Clinch Mountain Studios. I appreciate all of the support and projects that came our way.

We are currently working on a project for Rutledge Presbyterian Church. It is a beautiful little church with no congregation! It is on the historical registry. I have wanted to work on these windows for years. It is a blessing to have been awarded the project. We have completed one window and I am working on the second. At the moment, the windows are torn apart and are being cleaned. Each piece, literally is being soaked in soapy water, then brushed and dried! My estimated date of completion is somewhere within the next couple of weeks.

I have two small windows for a customer in Washburn that I am working on drawing patterns for today. Recently, we were asked to display some work at the Public Market. The folks out there have several booths, made in East Tennessee Gallery, is the name of the space. I have a few fused projects for sale there now, and am working towards building some glass panels to display. They have around 20 artists occupying their space. It is an exciting opportunity and the Market is a great place.

On a personal note, I just returned from a visit to Paris. Incredible place. I was amazed at the art. It inspired me to do better at what I do. I feel my talent is a gift and at times I take it for granted. Seeing all of the amazing art in Paris reminded me of how important my gift is. My greatest works of art, Deryk and Kaila are both doing great. Deryk is planning on moving back to Tennessee in the next couple of months. He is seeking a teaching position and desires to return to earn his Masters Degree. Kaila graduated early from Grainger High and will be attending Walters State this semester, then onto The University of Tennessee in the Fall. She plans to study business.

Until, hopefully, tomorrow…lol….
